The New DailyPB: Faster, and You Can Watch It Being Built

DailyPB is getting rebuilt from the ground up. If you play or host on DailyPB today, here's the short version: you won't lose anything, you don't need to do anything, and it's going to be a lot faster.

Why Rebuild DailyPB at All?

When I started DailyPB in 2022, I wasn't a developer. I learned a no-code tool called Bubble by building the thing I needed, a single place to find open play. (That whole story is in What Is DailyPB?.)

Bubble got us a long way. Thousands of players, plus payments, reminders and round robins. But every page has to load a lot before you see anything, and you feel it most on your phone. It's also slow and risky to change, so fixes and new ideas take longer than they should.

So I'm moving DailyPB off Bubble and into real code. Every feature you use today gets rebuilt and tested, one by one.

What Stays the Same

This is the part that matters most if you already use DailyPB:

  • Your account. Same email, same profile. No new account.
  • Your sessions, past and upcoming.
  • Your signup history. It comes with you.
  • Your groups, interest lists and contacts.
  • Hosts: the same Stripe account and the same payouts. Nothing to reconnect.

If you sign in with Google, you'll sign in exactly the way you do now. If you use a password, there's one small step: on switch day we'll email you a one-time login link. Click it and you're in.

You don't need to sign up for anything. The waitlist on the build site is for friends who aren't on DailyPB yet.

What's New in the New DailyPB

What's new in the new DailyPB for players and hosts: pay on the page, closest sessions first, email login links, full signup history, session promotion and view counts.

A few of the new things, for players and for hosts.

The whole thing is faster. Every page, especially on your phone. Less waiting, more playing.

Find and sign up from ChatGPT or Claude. Soon after launch, you'll be able to ask your own AI assistant for a game ("any beginner games near me tonight?"), and it will find a DailyPB session and sign you up. Paid games finish on DailyPB's own checkout.

For players:

  • Pay without leaving DailyPB. Checkout happens right on the page.
  • Closest sessions first, plus a "Good for beginners" filter.
  • Log in with an email link. No password to remember.
  • Easier cancelling. Every signup email ends with how to cancel and a one-click link. (Today's rules are in How to cancel your spot.)

For hosts:

  • Promote your own session, all self-serve.
  • See how many people viewed each session.
  • When you cancel a session, you choose: refund everyone, or no refund.

A handful of bugs you've told me about get fixed along the way too. The map link in reminder emails that sometimes came up blank. Tapping Join while logged out and landing somewhere you couldn't finish. Hosts losing a half-made paid session while they set up Stripe.

It's a Big Build, and You Can Watch It

I won't pretend this is a quick weekend project. DailyPB today has 357 features, and every one of them has to work exactly the way you expect before anything switches over.

The rebuild is being done by AI helpers, with a lot of checking. Before writing any new code, they read through all 10,114 pieces of the old Bubble app to learn how it actually works, including the odd rules nobody wrote down. Then every feature gets tested against what the old app really did. They even press every button 2, 10, 50 and 100 times at once, to make sure nobody ever gets double-booked or double-charged when a popular session fills up.

You can follow along at theyreinthekitchen.com. (In pickleball, the kitchen is the no-volley zone. This time the robots are in it.) The board shows what's being built right now and how many features are done. Screenshots and short videos of the new screens go up as they're finished.

There's also an ideas box at the bottom. Add an idea, or vote on someone else's. The top ideas get built first after the switch.

What You Need to Do

Almost nothing. Keep playing and hosting the way you do now. When the switch is close, you'll hear from us.

If you have a friend who isn't on DailyPB yet, send them to the build site to get on the waitlist. And if you have a question in the meantime, the help center still covers how everything works today, and it's searchable.
