Disputes
If a player disputes a charge through their credit card company, it kicks off a formal process that affects both DailyPB and you as the host. In most cases DailyPB catches flagged charges and refunds them before a dispute is ever filed (see "How DailyPB prevents most disputes" below) — the rest of this page covers both that prevention path and what happens in the rare case a dispute actually gets filed.
What is a dispute?
What is a dispute? What is a chargeback? What happens when a player disputes a charge? How common are disputes on DailyPB? What does a dispute cost? What is the dispute fee?
A dispute (also called a chargeback) happens when a player contacts their bank to contest a charge. This immediately pulls the full transaction amount out of DailyPB's platform account. On top of that, Stripe charges a non-refundable $15 dispute fee, plus another $15 "dispute counter fee" for contesting it (this second fee is refundable if the dispute is won).
The good news: disputes are extremely rare on DailyPB — the current dispute rate is just 0.05%, which is considered very low risk by industry standards.
How DailyPB prevents most disputes (fraud flags)
What happens when a bank flags a charge as fraud? Why was my payment refunded without me asking? What is a fraud flag? What is an early fraud warning? Why does my statement show a name I don't recognize? How does an unrecognized statement descriptor cause a dispute? How does DailyPB prevent chargebacks? Can I pay again after a refund? Can I still use DailyPB after my bank flagged a charge? Why can't I sign up or pay for sessions after a fraud flag?
This all happens before a dispute officially exists. Stripe gives DailyPB an early fraud warning when a bank flags charges as suspicious — that warning arrives before any formal dispute is filed, and it's DailyPB's window to act. A formal dispute is a separate, later stage that only begins if the bank actually files a chargeback.
Most "fraud" on DailyPB isn't fraud at all — it's a real player who doesn't recognize the host's name (the statement descriptor) on their credit card statement and tells their bank to stop the charges. When we get the early warning, DailyPB immediately refunds the flagged payments in full, before they can turn into formal disputes.
Why refund instead of fighting? Once a dispute is filed, the money gets pulled back anyway, the fees stack up ($15 non-refundable + $15 counter fee), and everyone — player, host, and DailyPB — spends weeks on paperwork just to end up in the same place. Refunding instantly skips all of that.
What happens after the proactive refund:
- The player gets the full amount back on their card (5–10 days) and receives an email explaining what happened, asking them to tell their bank the charges were legitimate. Clearing it with the bank is required to keep using DailyPB for signups and payments — until the flag is resolved, new payments would just trigger more fraud flags, and DailyPB can't keep processing charges for a card that's reporting them as fraud.
- The host gets a heads-up from DailyPB and sees the payouts reversed — the host is out their payment for the session plus Stripe's small processing fee (the DailyPB fee is refunded back into the reversal). The host is made whole when the player re-pays.
- The sessions flip back to "unpaid" in the player's DailyPB account. Once the player has cleared things with their bank, they can simply log in and hit Pay on each session to square up with the host.
If your Stripe statement descriptor doesn't clearly identify you (e.g. an old business name), players won't recognize the charge and their banks may flag it. You can change the descriptor in your Stripe account settings — something like your name or "DAILYPB <NAME>" prevents most of these flags.
What happens when a dispute is created?
What happens when a dispute is created? What are the steps after a chargeback? Will I be notified of a dispute? Does the host lose the money during a dispute? What emails go out when a dispute starts? How do I track a dispute?
A filed dispute means the early-fraud-warning prevention didn't get the chance to work — either no early warning came, or the bank filed the chargeback before DailyPB's refund could land. This should be rare.
Once a dispute is filed, these steps happen automatically:
- Funds are reversed. The payment sent to you is pulled back — the full amount the player paid is deducted from the Stripe Express account, including any fees.
- A $15 dispute fee is charged to DailyPB.
- The player and host are notified. DailyPB emails the player asking for clarification — whether it was an error or if there's more context. You and DailyPB are CC'd, and this is often the fastest way to resolve it.
- The host gets a separate email from DailyPB with the dispute details and what to expect next.
- A dispute record is logged. A Dispute transaction is added to your Finance dashboard so you can track it.
How are disputes handled?
How are disputes handled? Do I have to deal with Stripe myself? Who responds to a dispute? Does DailyPB handle disputes for me? What do I need to do when there's a dispute?
In nearly all cases (100% so far) a dispute is a misunderstanding or mistake on the player's part — they forgot they signed up, or didn't recognize the account name on their statement. Once the player explains, DailyPB responds to Stripe with the proper documentation and evidence on your behalf.
You don't need to deal with Stripe directly — DailyPB handles the entire process and keeps you in the loop.
What if the dispute is won?
What happens if the dispute is won? Do I get paid back if I win the dispute? How much do I get back after winning a dispute? What does my dashboard show after winning?
If the dispute is resolved in your favor:
- The full payment is returned to the DailyPB platform.
- You're paid out manually, minus the $15 dispute fee. For example, if your original payout was $40, you'll receive $25.
- Your dashboard updates to show the dispute transaction removed and a new "Dispute Fee" transaction of $15.
What if the dispute is lost?
What happens if the dispute is lost? Do I lose the money if the dispute is lost? Who pays the fees when a dispute is lost? What is the cost of losing a dispute?
- You permanently lose the payment.
- DailyPB absorbs the $15 dispute charge plus the additional $15 dispute counter fee.
Summary
What are all the dispute outcomes? Who gets what when a dispute is created, won, or lost? What's the breakdown of money flow in a dispute?
| Scenario | Host Outcome | DailyPB Outcome | Player Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dispute is created | Full payment pulled from Stripe (includes Stripe & DailyPB fees) | Charged $15 dispute fee | Full payment reversed |
| Dispute is lost | Net loss of the full payment | Absorbs the $15 fee + $15 counter fee | Full payment reversed |
| Dispute is won | Repaid the original payout minus the $15 dispute fee | — | Full payment repaid |
Disputes are rare and usually simple to resolve. DailyPB proactively contacts the player, gathers details, and submits evidence for you — the goal is a quick, fair resolution without taking up your time.
